We asked Mastodon drummer/singer Brann Dailor about the band’s poppy new single, “Show Yourself,” and this is what he said about being musically adventurous. Mastodon plays Fort Rock this weekend.
Mastodon is doing a soundcheck in Kansas City. And the doctor is waiting. “There’s a rock doctor here,” says drummer and singer Brann Dailor, “and he’s getting ready to give everybody B12 shots in our butts!”
That’s good news for Fort Rock fans. By the time Mastodon’s tour gets to south Fort Myers, the band will be in tip-top health and ready to melt faces with its mind-expanding progressive metal.
Dailor promises a mix of songs from throughout the Atlanta band’s 15-year career — from intense, jazz-influenced, insanely complicated oldies such as “Bladecatcher” to newer, simpler, poppier tunes such as the current single “Show Yourself.”
“We break it all up pretty well, I think,” he says. “We try to please everybody that’s coming in the door.”
Mastodon joins a huge lineup of 26 bands for the fifth-annual fest at JetBlue Park this weekend, including Def Leppard, Soundgarden, In Flames, Eagles of Death Metal, A Perfect Circle, The Offspring, Papa Roach and Chevelle.
