Influences And Recollections of a Musical Mind

Myrkur is a revelation. The black metal/dark folk project is the creation of Danish musician Amalie Bruun. Their newest album, 2017’s magnificent Mareridt is a mesmerizing collection of songs inspired by Bruun’s nightmares and episodes of sleep paralysis. Parts of the record are harsh and brutal, but much of it is absolutely hauntingly beautiful. Bruun has an incredible voice, quickly becoming one of my favorites in all of music. The title track, Mareridt, along with Serpent, Ulvinde, and Funeral are some of the standout songs, but the entire album is without any weak spots. Myrkur sounds like no-one else, and that is precisely the kind of music that inspires me year in and year out.
