Influences And Recollections of a Musical Mind

Like many people of my generation I discovered Thin Lizzy by hearing The Boys Are Back In Town on the radio. Hearing ‘Live And Dangerous’ when it was released in 1978 opened up the realization that they were a sensational live band. Phil Lynott was a great vocalist, an above average bass player, a charming performer, and a gifted writer of lyrics and great melodic hard rock. Add in the twin lead guitar tag team of Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham and hard hitting Brian Downey on drums, and you have one of the best live albums of the decade, hell…any decade! The brilliant segue of Cowboy Song into The Boys Are Back was a genius move. Emerald was glorious, and Still In Love With You is simply magnificent. One of my biggest regrets in my concert going career is my failure to ever see this band in concert.
