Influences And Recollections of a Musical Mind

Radiohead gained a fan (me!) when they released The Bends in 1995. Like most music fans in that decade, we heard them first via their gigantically popular song Creep, from their debut. That song deserved all its acclaim, but The Bends was something more and different…a full treasure chest of beautifully realized songs, ambient soundscapes, tortured emotional content, cryptic lyrics, and the haunting vocals of Thom Yorke. My favorites from this magnificent disc include My Iron Lung, High And Dry, Fake Plastic Trees, Planet Telex, (Nice Dream), and Street Spirit (Fade Out). I will admit that I have to be in the right frame of mind to listen to Radiohead. It is not music for a casual experience. The listener needs to be ready to go into the trenches with this band, but the rewards are vast.
