Influences And Recollections of a Musical Mind

Producer Rick Rubin helped the Red Hot Chili Peppers craft their masterpiece, Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991) and turn them into international superstars. The Peppers had been growing their fan base and reputation steadily over the course of the previous 2 albums, but this was the one where they truly captured the hearts of alternative nation. Featuring the gigantic success of Under The Bridge and Give It Away, with the respective videos getting massive MTV air time, the newly constituted classic lineup of the Peppers with Anthony Kiedis, Flea, John Frusciante, and Chad Smith had become a killer team in both writing and performing. In a word, chemistry! Besides the huge hits, Blood Sugar Sex Magik had a great title song, along with If You Have To Ask, Suck My Kiss, Funky Monks, Breaking The Girl, My Lovely Man, and Sir Psycho Sexy. Pretty impressive stuff from a band who got their first notoriety from performing with nothing but tube socks covering their man parts!
