White Zombie: La Sexorcisto
Before La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume One (1992), White Zombie were very much an underground cult band.
The song (and resulting video) Thunder Kiss ’65 launched the band firmly into the big league of heavy metal in the ’90’s, giving the genre a healthy blast of new blood and energy.
White Zombie brought an intense live show and a style that was equal parts horror movie based and full of groove; in a word, fun!
La Sexorcisto contains lots of samples from B grade horror films and a couple of cameo appearances from Iggy Pop.
On a personal level I remember vividly seeing the video for Thunder Kiss ’65 on the original Headbangers Ball show on MTV and instantly falling in love with the music, visuals, and that amazing guitar riff, at once simple and unforgettable.
I have followed Rob Zombie from that moment on, and have very rarely been disappointed. For me it all began with this album, and it still gets me in the zone every time I hear it.
