Influences And Recollections of a Musical Mind

Written By Braddon S. Williams

Overkill make this list on the strength (superhero strength!) of the song Hello From The Gutter from their Under The Influence (1988) album.

Hello From The Gutter had a video featured on the original Headbanger’s Ball on MTV at the time and I absolutely fell in love with everything about it.

Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth’s maniacal vocals, Bobby Gustafson’s crushing rhythm sound and blistering, face melting guitar solo, D.D. Verni’s bionic bass tone of doom, and newcomer Sid Falck’s frenetic drumming.

I purchased the album (on vinyl) and was pleased to discover that Overkill had more than just one song in their arsenal.

As a matter of fact, even with a ton of lineup changes throughout the years, Overkill remain one of the hardest working and hardest rocking thrash bands in the game, with Blitz and D.D. still steering the course and waving the banner for East Coast thrash with Brooklyn pride.
