PJ Harvey: To Bring You My Love
I really should listen to more PJ Harvey. She released the masterful To Bring You My Love in 1995, and it is an utterly amazing piece of work. Great production, great songs, great performances…brilliance oozes out of this record.
The first song I heard by Polly Jean Harvey (and still my all-time favorite) is Down By The Water. It was featured in the soundtrack to The Basketball Diaries, and from there I purchased To Bring You My Love.
There is a strong undercurrent of blues themes and religious symbolism running throughout the album, but it has this true ’90’s grounding to it, also.
The title track is riveting (nearly the equal of Down By The Water on my list), and other key tracks are C’mon Billy, Teclo, Meet Ze Monsta, Long Snake Moan, and The Dancer. Just writing about this makes me want to listen to it again (and to go exploring for more).
PJ Harvey is a strong presence with a unique vision and important things to say with her music.
