The Velvet Underground’s The Complete Matrix Tapes Coming to Vinyl for the First Time

8xLP box set gathers highlights from the band’s 1969 residency at the Matrix in San Francisco

The Complete Matrix Tapes—a collection of live recordings by the Velvet Underground, captured at the Matrix in San Francisco in 1969 and properly released for the first time in 2015—is coming to vinyl for the first time. The limited-edition 8xLP box set includes over 40 tracks and arrives July 12 via Polydor/UMe. The Complete Matrix Tapes were recorded November 26-27, 1969, and features the Velvet Underground’s live configuration as they existed after the departure of John Cale: Lou Reed, Sterling Morrison, Maureen Tucker, and Doug Yule.
