Hungry By Paul Revere And The Raiders, Album: The spirit Of 76 1966

The song “Hungry” was written by the husband and wife team of music business power players Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. It was produced by Terry Melcher, who was the son of Doris Day and trombonist Al Jorden. Melcher was of the pioneers of the “California Sound” and West Coast rock music. What the singer of the song wants are “good things” and “the sweet life.” Although, exactly what riches the singer covets aren’t stated explicitly — except to have her with him so they can be alone in a special high place. In 1966, the single “Hungry” rose to #6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. “Hungry” was also on their album released at the end of 1966 titled The Spirit of ’67. The song was covered by Sammy Hagar.

Paul Revere & The Raiders formed in Boise, Idaho, by organist Paul Revere Dick. At this point, they were Drake Levin (lead guitar, backing vocals), Mark Lindsay (lead vocals, saxophone), Paul Revere (keyboards), Michael “Smitty” Smith (drums), and Phil “Fang” Volk (bass guitar), and Jim “Harpo” Valley (guitar).
