Toronto’s BLACK ABSINTHE are ready for fans to bear “Witness” to their new music video for their latest single released earlier this November. The video for the single “Witness” was shot at Toronto heavy metal venue Coalition T.O just months before its unfortunate closure. The venue itself holds a very dear spot in the metal hearts of the band as they lived and performed just steps away from it for the last four years, meeting local and touring bands along with rocking out their own relentless run of shows.

Trusting Katherine Kwan, “The Wild” (2017) director to encapsulate the energy felt in the band’s live performances. The video begins with a glimpse into what a night at their local and beloved punk/metal Kensington Market venue was like. From the bright pit footage to the intoxicating strobe saturated drum breakdown – the single is represented in the best and most chaotic way possible.

“The insanity of the front row has been the proving grounds of Black Absinthe’s sound, and the foreground to this video.” The band adds. “Live shows took the placeholder for releasing music over the past three years, and the energy in this video is how you will always find us live. We want this video to transcend people who have been there while offering a snapshot of underground metal venues found across the globe.” adds the band.

Watch “Witness” via its premiere on SpaceUntravel‘s YouTube channel HERE.

BLACK ABSINTHE‘s new single “Witness”was recorded in the backwoods of Lac-des-Loups, QC at Wolf Lake Studios with producer Alexander Galley (Loviatar, Dissentient, Martyrs). Representing a new generation of heavy music producers, Galley’s enthusiasm, knowledge, and openness confirmed he would bring a cutting edge sensibility to the band’s recording of the track. A forward-thinking producer with an ear to the ground of the emerging sounds of heavy music, his direction for guitar and bass tone for the song was a vision all his own. Reminiscent of the classic metal philosophy and in an intense ten-hour blitz, BLACK ABSINTHE went into the studio knowing they wanted to record the song in its entirety and bask in the completed performance. Equipped with an Ayotte house-kit in the studio, Austin Henderson laid down drum tracks to set the foundation of the track for the session. Following, bassist Kyle Scarlett and guitarist Jack Cerre both tuned up and recorded with their stage Fenders. Housing exceptional gear, BLACK ABSINTHE utilized the studio’s Kemper Profiler and boutique bass gear (Darkglass Electronics).

Guitarist and lead vocalist Jack Cerre says:

“All in all the experience was exhilarating, especially under pressure, our preparation paid off because the recording captures a true performance and urgency.”

“Witness” follows BLACK ABSINTHE‘s 2016 breakout album “Early Signs of Denial” that was produced by Dave Baksh (Sum 41, Black Cat Attack). The album garnered praise from respectable outlets such as Bravewords “The record has emphasis of crushing modern tone, polished instrumental sections, soaring vocals and a blending of contemporary and classic metal.” and Blabbermouth “BLACK ABSINTHE does quite a bit within each of their songs, wrangling together bits of metal theories from yesteryear and today. Classic metal, power metal, death metal, thrash, it’s all dosed out like party pills for headbangers.” along with topping the Canadian College Radio National Loud Charts at #7 for July 2016 (Earshot).

“Witness” is available on SpotifyBandcamp and Apple Music.

Dec 6 – Montreal, QC – Piranha Bar

About:

Formed in the underground dungeons and dives of Toronto’s metal scene, Black Absinthe is a Canadian modern heavy metal band consisting of Jack Cerre (guitar, vocals), Kyle Scarlett (bass), and Austin Henderson (drums). A mix of thrashing mosh pits and riff-heavy anthems, their growing presence in the diverse heavy music scene, unifies classic metal grandeur, speed-demon rhythm sections, soaring solos, with modern technicality.

Since 2011, Black Absinthe has performed, recorded, and brought the party all over Canada. Over the course of three EP’s & one LP, Early Signs of Denial, Black Absinthe has continued to grow and experiment on its NWOBHM influences while maintaining the intensity of the genre. As they continue to expand their setlists in 2019 and tour in both new and familiar places, the band is set to release their latest studio recording, Witness, a riff-strong single inspired by the band’s energetic live stage performances. With plenty of live material to work within the studio, the band shows no signs of slowing down and plans to release more material in the coming year.

Celestial Ruin, from Vancouver, Canada released their new single “Heart Shaped Ashes” produced by Mike Plotnikoff (In Flames, Three Days Grace, The Cranberries) on November 5, 2019, and now to follow it up they have a music video to share on November 23, 2019.

The visual introspection tells the story of loss and the walk through the painful fire of rediscovering yourself and overcoming the past. Celestial Ruin has been making a name for themselves since they formed in 2012 and shook the local scene with their debut album “The Awakening”. Their last single “Sense of Exile” from their 2016 follow up EP “Pandora” has over half a million plays on Spotify.

Since then, they have only improved and the new single embraces the grey area of rock that is still radio-friendly and heavy. Celestial Ruin shares the theme behind the single:

“The music video for Heart Shaped Ashes is about the battle between who you were in the past and who you are now. It’s about becoming strong enough to let go of the past and the choices you made in the pursuit of love. No matter the cost.”

Streaming on Youtube, fans of Halestorm, In This Moment, Nightwish and Evanescence have a new band to love in the form of Celestial Ruin

Guitarist Kevin Estrella’s project Pyramids On Mars has a new album being released on December 21, 2019, entitled “Edge of the Black”. The full length offers up an aural palette of intense instrumental rock that’s emotional, provocative and 4-dimensional.

Following Pyramids On Mars’ two previous albums, “Edge of the Black” was written, composed and performed solely by Kevin Estrella who cites influences from musical greats including J.S Bach and Antonio Vivaldi along with today’s guitar virtuosos Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani“Edge of the Black” pays homage to these artists while still maintaining Estrella’s own creative flair. Estrella shares his thoughts on the album:

“On Edge of The Black, I wanted to put emphasis on songwriting and telling a story. The emphasis is not just on the lead guitar melody, but on the band as a whole. Harmonic variations on repeating themes are strongly utilized; like rhyming phrases in spoken language that allows easier accurate retelling of the original story. This idea of repeating music phrases/themes so the audience can easily recall it and hum it all the way home.”

Teaming up with PureGrainAudio.comPyramids On Mars is premiering the J.S. Bach inspired track ‘Song of Light’, which even kicks off with a harpsichord in the intro.

About:

Every once in awhile there comes along a band that is so different or unique, you would think they were dropped on Earth from another planet.  Pyramids on Mars is one of those bands. What first catches you, is that they are an instrumental band. A combination of elements such as hard rock, industrial, metal and psychedelic rock: and then the lead guitar comes soaring in.  Well crafted, beautiful, melodic phrases so catchy and memorable they will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

Pyramids on Mars is the solo project of guitarist Kevin Estrella.  He wanted to do something musically different that would stand out from the crowd. Estrella’s musical style is very similar to world-renowned rock guitarist Joe Satriani, so much so that Estrella has nicknamed himself the “Satriani of the North.”

“Of course Satriani has had a huge influence on me,” he says “But he (Satriani) does more of a bluesy thing whereas I am more influenced by classical music.  I absolutely love the Baroque classical composers J.S Bach and Antonio Vivaldi who are my biggest musical influences.

Estrella recorded, produced, engineered and mastered his debut album, self-titled “Pyramids on Mars” in 2013.  Since then, he has been capturing music industry attention-getting international radio airplay in the U.S, Canada, South America, and Europe.  He is a regular guest on Brian ‘the hammer’ Jackson radio (Los Angeles) to over 4 million listeners and a weekly speaker on Real Rock Radio (Chicago).

Warm Up This Winter With “Unsought Salvation” From Edmonton Prog TYLOR DORY TRIO

New Music Video “East of Eden”

Tylor Dory Trio from Edmonton, Canada are putting out a new record and it’s exactly the warm proggy hug you need this winter. “Unsought Salvation” is full to the brim with warm riffs and spicy drumming, topped with delectable vocals that will comfort you as the nights grow longer.

TDT explains the connection between the new album and their 2015 debut EP “Carried Away”:

“The album should serve as a valid continuation from ‘Carried Away’ alongside spiritual ties to the first EP. ‘Carried Away’ was tonally quite dark, we feel that ‘Unsought Salvation’ is a more balanced presentation featuring some upbeat tracks alongside darker and heavier tracks that you may have come to expect from listening to ‘Carried Away’.”

For the first single off the album, East of Eden’, the trio have put together a video featuring their adventures in Norway where the full length’s bass, drums, and guitars were recorded with Christer Cederberg at Cederberg Studios in Kristiansand in 2017. Vocals and synth were recorded in their hometown of Edmonton at The Laboradory.

When asked about the themes present in East of Eden’, TDT explains:

“It’s’ our leading single and one of the most accessible and hooky songs on the album. I love how the chorus evolves in this song, getting bigger and bolder each time. A song about betrayal, we feel that East of Eden matches the fire of the lyrics while staying refined musically. Also, the only song, other than the acoustic tracks, recorded on six-string guitars as opposed to eights.”

About:

Tylor Dory Trio was conceived in late 2012 by guitarist/vocalist Tylor Dory and drummer Jonathan Webster. Wanting to step aside from playing in extreme metal bands, Dory and Webster decided to form the duo to explore the music close to their hearts – proggy weird stuff. The trio was completed in late 2013 after the addition of their bassist Slava Fedossenko.

Bringing together influences like OpethAlice In Chains, and Rush; TDT is characterized by proficient musicianship, tight songwriting, and powerful hooks. It’s progressive metal that isn’t pretentious. TDT loves pushing the boundaries of what a power trio can accomplish, but above all else, it’s about the songs.

Musically, they take their fans on a journey through light and dark tonalities, crushing heaviness to ethereal cleanliness, through peaks and valleys that end up coming full circle.

Their latest full length “Unsought Salvation” was recorded with the prolific Christer-Andre Cederberg at his studio in Kristiansand, Norway in February 2017, to be released December 20, 2019, to follow their 2015 EP “Carried Away”

Warm Up This Winter With “Unsought Salvation” From Edmonton Prog TYLOR DORY TRIO And Single “East of

Super Metal World recently conducted an interview with frontwoman Tatiana Shmailyuk of Ukrainian modern metal frontrunners JINJER. You can listen to the entire chat at this location.

On the reaction to their new studio album, “Macro”:

Tatiana: “So far, I haven’t yet heard any negative reactions to the album, so, that’s good. I’m not the one who is surfing the Internet in search of comments and reactions. I don’t care what people think because I have a lot of things to do. I don’t know…so far so good. Again, I haven’t heard shitty responses to the album.”

On the songwriting approach to “Macro”:

Tatiana: “I don’t take part in composing music. Everything I do I’m just writing lyrics and trying to feed them into already-written material. I don’t take part in composing it and they, the rest of the guys, write music at their home and they don’t even ask me about my opinion about the material.”

On whether “Pisces” was the song that broke JINJERinto the mainstream:

Tatiana: “Unfortunately, ‘Pisces’ lost its charm. It became viral, which I don’t like. I don’t like the huge hype that we’re having right now. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. This song is very personal and believe me, Pisces are not those people who are begging for our attention. I don’t like this word, ‘mainstream.’ The people made it mainstream; we didn’t. We didn’t really want it to be like this. But nevertheless, on the other hand, it’s really good. It’s really good that this song is so much appreciated.”

On whether she feels “jaded” about JINJER‘s recent popularity:

Tatiana: “The only thing I can say about that, [is] me personally, I feel under the pressure. I feel the pressure a bit, but, I’m sure that people are going to say, ‘Okay, but this is what you wanted, so don’t complain.’ And I will say that when I dreamt about being a singer in a band, I was 11, and believe me, I had no idea that musicians had their own reality to face. I had no idea. And I didn’t read any articles or didn’t watch any interviews because, first of all, I didn’t have any Internet connection on my computer. I imagined it to be a fucking fairytale. [Laughs] Obviously it’s not like that. I didn’t know that I had to do so many interviews. [Laughs] I feel like being a musician in the 21st century is a completely different thing than being a musician in the 20th century in the ’90s, for example, and the ’70s and ’80s. So, I probably cannot compare because I never lived in those times.”

On whether she still gets joy out of being in JINJER:

Tatiana: “Yeah, of course. Of course. Sometimes your exhaustion or your tiredness is so overwhelming that you kind of stop seeing those beautiful things every day. You have to always be focused. I have to be focused all the time on the good which is a really hard thing for me. [Laughs] But I’m trying to be grateful and trying to learn.”

On whether her rough Ukrainian upbringing has any effect on her perspective on the music industry:

Tatiana: “No. I think I was born like this. I believe that, well, a lot of people think that you can shift energies from negative to positive. I think, to my mind, people are born with a certain kind of energy. Someone was born sad and someone was born, I don’t know, very happy and positive and no matter what happens in their life, they are always positive. They don’t even have to make any effort to stay positive. This is genuine energy. And someone is seeing everything in black and white. It’s really hard.”

On whether she’s an introvert:

Tatiana: “Yes. Two-hundred percent introverted. [Laughs] It’s not bad, and again, I analyze myself all the time. Sometimes people make me think I’m kind of retarded or handicapped being an introvert. A lot of people don’t even know that there is a term ‘extrovert’ and ‘introvert.’ They think that those shy people, there is something wrong with them, but hell no, I remember once in my childhood, I was very extroverted, but then something clicked in my head. When I was dancing, like in a circle of our relatives at parties, holidays, then something clicked in my head and I started avoiding people. When our relatives came to celebrate some holiday, I was hiding under my bed because there were very crazy dudes. Like not really my uncle, he’s not my relative, there’s not blood relationships, and he was really loud. [Laughs] And I was hiding from him. I was hiding under my bed so that he didn’t disturb me.”

“Macro” was released on October 25 via Napalm Records. Punishing riffs, aggressively blended vocals and astonishingly deep lyrics make “Macro” JINJER‘s most advanced and undeniable album yet — taking the listener on a journey of trauma, power struggle and greed with a progressive groove metal backdrop.

About:Born in 1989, singer, songsmith and multi-instrumentalist Morgan Rider had his earliest imaginings of life as a musician while contending with an often tumultuous childhood. Overhearing his mother – who is a trained operatic soprano – his love and understanding of music blossomed at an early age. Morgan eventually spending his adolescent and early adult years performing in touring metal bands – appearing on tours and large festivals across North America and Europe.

During the summer of 2017, Morgan’s adoration of folk, classical and blues music finally culminated into a project and the beginnings of a collection of songs. The name Deep Dark River had been stuck in his head for years, as a byproduct of his writings and alluding to the very nature of his ideas as a musician and artist. As such, Deep Dark River became the name by which he would perform beneath.

While his ideas began to take form, so did his mindset for what became the early stages of Deep Dark River. In March of 2018, the first original Deep Dark River single ‘The Golden Bough’ was released digitally worldwide. Morgan began performing live and also toured solo to the Canadian east coast to promote the single. In the summer of 2018, the debut album Deep Dark River was released and supported with a full Canadian solo tour over 5 weeks.

As 2018 neared its end, Morgan called upon his friend Nathen Morrison to contribute cello to the sounds of Deep Dark River, solidifying the project as a duo. The pair immediately began rehearsing and recording the first of a four-album quadrilogy – which Morgan had written the bulk of on his travels. The first single featuring the pair – Starfire – was released in March of 2019 along with the album “King of The Forest” released on June 21st, 2019 via North Soul Records. Not slowing down, the pair have their next album just months later “The Deep Dark Blue” planned for release via North Soul Records on November 22nd, 2019 with its lead single ‘The Seafaerers’.

True Norwegian Black Metal legends MAYHEM will release their sixth studio album, entitled “Daemon” on October 25th. Last week they revealed the cover and track list of the standard version of the album, which you can see below.

However, as a special treat for fans, there will also be a Ltd. Deluxe 2LP Box set available featuring alternate cover artwork and a few special bonus songs on a separate one-sided LP, as well as some extra items for die-hard fans.

Here are all the details of the Ltd. Deluxe 2LP Box Set for “Daemon”, which comes in a noble box with linen optic and golden silk-screen print featuring the alternate artwork.

This is the first official music video we have released, so indeed some thought went into this. Instead of having us filmed at some dodgy location with instruments not even plugged in, we did something different, in the true tradition of the band. We hired Johan Bååth (Watain etc) as a director and we also were lucky enough to get the infamous Swedish graffiti Artist Ziggy Jonas Rasmusson to do his ritualistic paintings for the video. “

Producer Tore Stjerna states the following:

It’s a very strong track with tons of energy. It also stands out in an interesting way with its hints towards industrial music. The insanity of this roller-coaster ride of a song marries beautifully with the twisted art featured in the video.”

This is what director Johan Bååth has to say about this work of art:

When I was asked to do the very first Mayhem music video,  I thought I really had to do something more than just a plain Black Metal video, I wanted to take it one step further and do something different but stay true to the genre and of course Mayhem’s iconic legacy as a band. I thought of the artist Ziggy Jonas Rasmusson and his ritualistic paintings and I asked him if he wanted to participate. Together we came up with this idea of a ritualistic painted pentagon-shaped room, completely surrounded by five painted walls, facing a centered pentagram-painting with Ziggy´s ”hex-text” signs and symbols all over, each of the five point corners symbolizing human expiration.

In the middle we see an organic neoplasm tumor-like shaped form, all muddy and dirty with wooden branches ensnared around it. The surreal and scary-looking outgrowth is almost breathing with dark energy, attached to several plastic tubes connected to five cloaked characters symbolizing the five members of Mayhem. They´re completely occupied with different ritual tasks destroying all humanity and contributing matter and dark energy to the demon creation in the middle.”
