Guitarist Gary Holt (Exodus, Slayer) Self-Quarantines While “Suffering From All the Symptoms” of Coronavirus

Gary Holt, guitarist for legendary thrash acts Exodus and Slayer, has revealed that he believes he has the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. As a result, he is wisely self-quarantining until he is symptom-free for seven days:

“So I’ve been locked away with [wife Lisa Holt], suffering from all the symptoms of Corona, without the beer! Mildly sick, better today after repeatedly waking up soaked in sweat last night. Self monitoring with my better half, and unfortunately, won’t be able to visit my grandkids until I’m symptom free for seven days. Ugh. Movie time, binge watching TV, and waiting this out!”

I’m sure the women and men who make Corona beer could live without Holt’s wisecrack, given that the unfortunate similarity in names is doing serious damage to their business (which, I shouldn’t have to point out, is ridiculous — Corona beer is not the source of the coronavirus). Still, this is, it goes without saying, lousy news.

Holt is just the latest notable metal/ hard rock musician to have a confirmed or suspected case of the virus, including Ozzy Osbourne producer Andrew Watt, Batushka’s Krzysztof Drabikowski, Crown the Empire’s Brandon Hoover, and an unidentified member of Slugdge. There will surely be many, MANY more cases in the coming days and weeks.

Solitary celebrate 25 years of thrash with a new neck-breaking EP – XXV!

Thrash Metal: a relentless, neck-breaking overdose of adrenaline. It exploded in the early to mid ’80s and dragged the metal scene, high on velocity and violence, into a new, thrilling era. For some thrash metal was a brief, brilliant flame that burned up a decade before fading to cold ashes. To others it was a call to arms that would last a lifetime. When Solitary signed their enlistment papers, they signed in blood and this year they celebrate twenty five years, a quarter of a century, of total thrash dedication. Tastes may change and seasons pass, but Solitary promised to thrash forever and their word holds true to this day.

A twenty fifth anniversary is a milestone that cannot be left unnoticed or allowed to pass uncelebrated, so Solitary hit the studio to re-record three classic songs from their illustrious back catalogue – ‘Requiem’, ‘Within Temptation‘ and ‘Keep Your Enemies Closer’. As well as injecting these much loved monsters with a fresh venom and energy, the band captured two songs from their last London show, at the Camden Underworld with Darkane. ‘Architects Of Shame’ and ‘The Diseased Heart Of Society’ in all their wild, untamed, live glory were added to the mix and together these five recordings, bristling with bullish belligerence and armed to the teeth with speed and savage riffs, form the new Solitary EP – XXV. Returning bassist Gaz Harrop, Solitary’s own prodigal son, has made his mark on these new recordings and you can taste the fire that still burns in the collective heart of this most dedicated band.

There was only one artist that Solitary wanted to create the imagery that adorns the cover of XXV and they were delighted when they managed to coax the legendary Koot out of retirement. Koot made his name in the ’90s creating instantly recognisable artwork for the likes of Saxon, Girlschool, Slammer, The Almighty, Freak Of Nature and The Exploitedbut had stepped away from his easel some years ago. Solitary are honoured to have been given the opportunity to add their name to his illustrious list of clients. The dramatic coat of arms that Koot has created for XXV is the perfect distillation of Solitary’s total dedication to the thrash cause; a powerful depiction of their unbreakable pledge of allegiance.

With appearances at Aggressive Music Fest and Bloodstock Open Air on the horizon and a new full length album being prepared for a 2020 release Solitary are stronger, harder, faster than ever. Stand beside them or fall by the wayside.

Rich Sherrington – Vocals & Guitar
Andy Mellor – Lead Guitars

Solitary open pre-orders for new EP XXV, celebrating 25 years of non-stop thrash!

On June 4th 1994, a quarter of a century ago, Solitary made their solemn pledge – to thrash forever! Exactly twenty five years on from that momentous moment the band have opened pre-orders for their new EP, XXV. XXV is a celebration of the decades of defiance; a glass raised to every triumph along the way, to every obstacle overcome and to an undying dedication to thrash metal!

XXV consists of brand new, 25th Anniversary recordings of Solitary classics, ‘Within Temptation‘, ‘Keep Your Enemies Closer’ and ‘Requiem’, alongside two raging live tracks, ‘Architects Of Shame’ and ‘The Diseased Heart Of Society’, captured at the Camden Underworld on March 23rd of this year, when Solitary played alongside Swedish melodic death metallers Darkane.

To make this EP an extra bit special, Solitary have coaxed legendary artist Koot out of retirement to create the stunning cover artwork. Koot made his name in the ’90s creating instantly recognisable artwork for the likes of Saxon, Girlschool, Slammer, The Almighty, Freak Of Nature and The Exploited. Solitary are honoured to add their name to that illustrious list of clients. The dramatic coat of arms that Koot has created for XXV is the perfect distillation of Solitary’s total dedication to the thrash cause; a powerful depiction of their unbreakable pledge of allegiance.

Reflecting on the creation of XXV and the opportunity to work with Koot, Solitary’s founder and frontman Rich Sherrington had this to say:

“When we formed in 1994, I don’t think anyone could have imagined that we’d be still playing 25 years later. We’ve created a lot of memories over the years and have had the opportunity to play with loads of great bands all over the UK and in Europe. With Gaz rejoining we thought it appropriate to celebrate our 25th birthday by releasing something. The original plan was to just go for a digital release but when Koot agreed to come out of retirement to work with us, there was no way that we couldn’t have such an iconic metal artist’s work on a physical product – hence XXV.”

Koot’s artwork will also be adorning some stunning t-shirts which will be available as part of some great pre-order bundles that the band have put together – all of which can be found here
