Butthole Surfers: Worm Saloon

By 1993, Butthole Surfers were on a major record label, their Independent Worm Saloon album was produced by John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin fame, and they were as close to mainstream acceptance as they were ever likely to get.

The Surfers had built their reputation in the underground, and their live shows were the stuff of legend.

I was late to the party for all of that, but Independent Worm Saloon is a highly entertaining mix of great sound, entertaining songs, bizarre humor, psychedelic insanity, and more.

For the most part, it is lean, mean, and rocks like a mad bastard. Gibby Haynes is far from the greatest singer around, but he knows how to draw attention to himself, and better yet, how to hold onto said attention.

Oh yes, and Beavis & Butthead loved them, too! In the ’90’s, that was the equivalent of a Golden Ticket.
