The Flaming Lips: Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots

The Flaming Lips released the weird and wonderful Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots in 2002, successfully breaking into the mainstream for arguably the first time.

Leader Wayne Coyne, along with Steven Drozd and Michael Ivins crafted this nearly symphonic work consisting of science fiction and human emotions such as love, despair, melancholy, and the eventual mortality.

I didn’t know too much about this band until I watched a really fascinating documentary about them. I still wouldn’t consider myself a fan of The Flaming Lips, but this album is magnificent, and I completely respect their vision and creativity.

There is definitely no-one else quite like The Flaming Lips, and I am all in favor of anyone who is a fearless original. I guess I must be a fan after all!
